There has been backlash against the Mumbai Indians’ decision to transfer captaincy duties from Rohit Sharma to recently signed Hardik Pandya. Considering how well Rohit Sharma mi has performed as the team’s captain over the past ten years, many people were shocked by the decision. Soon after the decision was made, there were rumors on social media circulating that veteran Indian players like Jasprit Bumrah, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav were considering leaving the team. However, a representative from MI has dismissed the discussions, stating that no player will leave the team this season.

The news reports are blatantly fraudulent. “We will not be trading or selling any MI players,” the official stated to Cricbuzz, denying the reports of senior players quitting.

Before a decision was made, each player was given the benefit of the doubt. The official went on to say that Rohit Sharma mi was also informed and actively involved in the decision-making process.

Mark Boucher, the head coach of the Mumbai Indians, was also questioned regarding the choice, particularly in light of the responses the team’s supporters had made. According to Boucher, the decision was carefully considered and deliberated with the franchise’s executive team.

Well, we’ve spoken with a few members of the team as well as the group leadership. It’s just a transitional phase, in my opinion. It’s the cricket game. Mumbai Indians advance. For us, Rohit has been excellent. He has been a Mumbai Indians mainstay and has performed admirably. This is simply a decision we’ve made to move on and enter a phase of transition with the new captain, putting all feelings aside and that kind of thing. That’s all it’s about, that’s all the coach said.

Regarding the unfavourable rumours surrounding the captaincy change, Boucher remarked, “Is there anything I can say about it? I’m not entirely sure. I mean, I’ve heard rumors and all that stuff on social media, but I’m not really into that kind of thing. To the best of my knowledge, we handled it as best we could. We acknowledge the feelings associated with everything, but for Mumbai Indians, this is just a period of transition. And that’s where we are right now—we made decisions to move forward.”
